Critic Jonni: Nathan Sykes

Finally, with the help of The X Factor, Nathan Sykes might have quite the hit on his hands. He seems to be trying to find his style, especially with the varying different singles he has released in anticipation of his debut album. He performed this song on The X Factor today, and it's been raking up the iTunes charts, which makes a change. It really shows how promotion can help to make a career. At first, the music video looks like it's set in the past, but we see that Nathan Sykes and Madison Iseman are acting. He's clearly interested, but she is already involved with the director. Momentous occasions happen, but it never goes anywhere with "Famous".

Nathan Sykes is best known for being one of five members of boy band The Wanted, who had extremely massive global success before their split. Since then, Nathan Sykes has been building his solo career. This marks his fourth single from his debut album. "Famous" is another emotional ballad that has some serious pop and blues vibes flowing through. It was written by Nathan Sykes, Harmony Samuels, Major Johnson Finley, Carmen Reece, and Edgar "JV" Etienne.

Directed by Ivanna Smyrnova, this narrative video really proves Nathan Sykes' ability to act, this isn't the first time he has managed to impress us; "Over and Over Again" is just as emotional and amazing.

In the video, Nathan Sykes is looking incredibly hot throughout. He is interested in his on-set love interest played by actress Madison Iseman. Unfortunately, she's with the director, which leaves Nathan Sykes lusting after her in all the visuals.

The concept is one that is completely relatable to a lot of people. We've all been there, wanting someone we can't have, having moments with that person but not going for it. There is an obvious attraction between the two, yet it never goes anywhere.

The performance side of things is engaging to an extent, Nathan Sykes looks dashingly handsome as he sings the catchy song. Much like his performance on The X Factor, it doesn't progress; just like the narration of the video.

Visually, this video is artistic, beautiful, gorgeous (in more ways than one), and engaging. The narration is flawless and easily relatable. However, the performance side of things is slightly lacking, regardless of the fact that it's high-quality and Nathan Sykes is looking handsome.

Ten days ahead of its release, this song is already the talk of the town. Could this be the hit song Nathan Sykes has been after? His third solo single after "Kiss Me Quick" and "Over and Over Again", both of which are phenomenal songs, but none of which hit the mark the way we all expected them to. They are good songs, just not the hit he so clearly deserves. This could be the one. Nathan Sykes begs his girlfriend to stop with him for the night, but how can she say no in this raunchy display of affection that just makes all us single people full of jealousy.

Nathan Sykes, for those of you who don't know, was one fifth of boy band The Wanted. He is now going it alone, and is releasing amazing singles, that are getting critical acclaim. "Kiss Me Quick" should've done better on the UK charts, with it's disappointingly low chart peak it suggested Nathan Sykes needed a musical change. "Over and Over Again" did much better, although still stalled just inside the top 10. This needs to be the hit he is after, grabbing G-Eazy's fan base as well as his own should push this single into the top five at least, it's certainly getting enough radio play. The song was written by Nathan Sykes, G-Eazy, Talay Riley, Luke James, Matthew Burnett and Riley Bell.

The very steamy video is directed by Michael Baldwin. It has been deemed too provocative for TV screens, this can both help or deter the song's charting position, either it will cause controversy, therefore making the song more popular, or not seeing it on the music channels can stop it from climbing the chart. But this will be Nathan Sykes biggest hit, no doubt. There are worse videos in the world than this make out session. Take a look at the incriminating scenes here. These two clearly are enjoying themselves. This relates perfectly with the song, even if it is a little too much, even for me. Then again, it's extremely suggestive, and it does make me jealous because I've been in that exact type of relationship, and I seriously miss it, but it's a perfect portrayal of what I had, and what a lot of other people have had. Creating a link with the audience and making a lot of girls and gay guys filled with envy because he's kissing this model and not them (*cough* me *cough*).

G-Eazy, real name Gerald Gillum, has really hit international rapping fame recently, and he's using all that popularity to good use. He's hit the UK hard after his top 10 hit with Grace on "You Don't Own Me". He's one rapper that isn't going away any time soon. But once again, I feel he adds nothing to the song, The lyrics work, but the music change and the rapping doesn't. It's like another song has interrupted Nathan Sykes vocals, however this is what we've come to accept from G-Eazy, and it's surely making him more popular. In the video he fails to entertain. He distracts and does nothing in his scene, just a simple little rap, that adds nothing to the visual at all.

Overall, an amazing song that should hit the UK charts hard, and a banned from UK TV music video that's raunchy, sexy, lustful and a little bit filthy. A much tamed version is being shown on UK TV though. It can be considered a bit much, but it relates to the song and Nathan Sykes and this model clearly had an amazing time during these scenes. They clearly couldn't keep their hands and lips off one another. Sexy clips are more focused on the model, disappointingly so, and G-Eazy fails to make any sort of good impression.

I cannot believe I found this little gem. Today was difficult, since it's a Thursday, it means revisit time... Yet none of the artists I have reviewed this week have a music video released in 2009 or earlier. Until I found out that Nathan Sykes entered Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2004, and also released this song as a promotional single, not that I can find it available to buy anywhere. This is the only video I can find too. Nathan Sykes proves he can dance in sync with this video, vocals may not be on point, but they don't matter since he is looking adorable, he has grown into one hot guy now.

Nathan Sykes had won a few awards and competitions by this point, and so taking his chances with Eurovision, might not have served him good. In recent years I have become obsessed with Eurovision, many countries take it so seriously, and it's about time the United Kingdom stopped joking around and started to take it seriously too, the competition is not what it used to be, credible acts get sent there and the rightful winner wins, not because of neighbour voting or countries past conflict, and the voting proves that as each year passes, sometimes shocking us. Nathan Sykes came third in the UK selection behind unheard names Cory Spedding and Andrew Merry (the latter became part of The Risk on The X Factor Series 8, which have disbanded). Will Nathan Sykes take a shot at the main contest in the next few years? Or was this something he didn't care all that much about? We do need a credible act to represent us soon.

This is a full performance video, no official music video was released, and so I have the video that is of the UK's selection for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2004, which was shown on ITV2.

A typical kids song, with typical kids dance moves incorporated into a choreography, that isn't so bad when watched again.

Good staging, although not that impressed with his fashion choices. Nathan Sykes wasn't exactly Born To Dance, but definitely born to sing, his music career has only just started and he has definitely improved because "Over And Over Again" is a stunner!

Nathan Sykes has done something no one else has ever done! First time watching this and tears roll down my cheeks. This video has officially made me cry. A real Romeo and Juliet feel to this video combined with The Notebook, a truly amazing storyline full of love, devotion and such a sweet ending with an emotional song to boot.

Nathan Sykes is one fifth of boy band, The Wanted, who are currently on hiatus. Therefore Nathan Sykes is making a career for himself as a solo artist. His debut single "Kiss Me Quick" hit number 14 on the UK chart, however this follow up single has been played on the radio more often and has got a lot of people talking, and now with a video like this, it's bound to get heaps more attention. The song sounds more like John Legend than Nathan Sykes, but kudos to him for creating an emotional ballad that's bound to be a hit.

Directed by Frank Borin, the narrative side of the video is amazing, I love the old woman, painting scenes in which we get to see, like they're her memories. Going back into the past and watching their dates and how they met. A few errors bring questions up such as the film they see which was released in 2015, along with the smart phone he uses to get her number... Was that on purpose? Suggesting the old woman's memory isn't as accurate?

The young woman is played by MaeMae Renfrow, and they build an amazing on screen relationship, one you can't help but wish you had. As for the performance side of things, Nathan Sykes plays the piano well, and sings well, however there isn't much performance that can happen when one is sat behind a piano. Some people can pull it off such as Avril Lavigne in "Let It Go". Nathan Sykes, take notes.

But who cares about his performance behind the piano? When we have him taking his shirt off in a raunchy scene? This music video has everything I want and more for a song that is full with passion. Beautiful song, perfect video, and teardrops rolling down my cheeks. Nathan Sykes and Frank Borin, what have you done to me and everybody else?

The Wanted once again gets my New Release, they have only previously been reviewed on this blog twice, and that was for "Glad You Came" and "Lightning". They have released quite a few singles since then, but none got to number one. From the iTunes chart, this song has only been out for a day and it's right at the top spot. Looks like these boys will gain another UK number one hit this Sunday. The Wanted consists to 5 guys, who are Nathan Sykes, Max George, Tom Parker, Jay McGuinness and Siva Kaneswaren.

"Chasing The Sun" was written by Alex Smith and Elliot Gleave. This surprised me as Elliot Gleave is in fact Example! I just couldn't believe it. No wonder this song is so great, although I am not too fond of Example, I do appreciate his music, and to be totally fair this is probably my favourite song by him, and although he hasn't personally sung it himself, it still counts in my eyes. It has already charted in Canada at number 50, which isn't too bad to be honest, but is that its peak? Or will it climb higher? This song is also set to be the theme song to "Ice Age: Continental Drift (AKA Ice Age 4)". And apparently, while filming the music video, they caused a blackout in LA, because an electrical transformer blew out. Read more here.

The music video once again gives us a total different meaning to what we were expecting. I just thought maybe they'd follow the sun partying here and there, but they have some great creativists behind them, as I would have never had come up with an idea like this, and it is a distinguishable music video.

I like the idea that they are chasing the sun tattoos, that are on the girls, and once again, thankfully, there is a girl for each of them, unlike previous boy bands... I also like how the girls are all vampires. According to really old vampiric lore, if a vampire bites you, you too become a vampire. However, authors have recently changed people's thoughts on these supernatural creatures, and clearly The Wanted aren't vampires, since they can walk in the sun, with no rings on, and they don't go shiny either... So... Taking a leap out of some of the other, more erotica books are they?

Overall I really like this music video, it links in with the song perfectly, although not totally expected, which always makes a nice change. I haven't got anything bad to say about this music video, and the song is extremely catchy. Although I didn't like it first time around.

The Wanted is a five piece pop band consisting of Max George, Jay McGuiness, Siva Kaneswaren, Tom Parker and Nathan Sykes. They have released a number of singles including their most recent single "Glad You Came" which got to number one here in the UK. Now they have released their second single from their second album and it's made by the same team. It managed to get to number two on the chart last week, with the help of a performance on the X Factor. I haven't been too sure of what to make of this song and it's music video, I feel that it doesn't suit it as well as it could, but we'll see.

This song was written by Steve Mac, Wayne Hector and Ed Drewett, who also wrote the song "Glad You Came". This would have helped them to gain the number 2 on the UK chart. But I don't think the song is as good as "Glad You Came", maybe it's just me because I think Glad You Came actually means something else that's actually making me laugh right this minute, whereas this one has no hidden meanings as far as I can tell. The song is about being in the start of a relationship and they both really like one another so much so that every touch tingles and when their lips touch it's like "playing with lightning".

The Wanted must have enjoyed making this music video, they looked like they had a lot of fun. Although there is little narrative, it is also enjoyable to watch, with eye-candy for both guys and girls, yet again. There is some bits where people can laugh at such as the smoke bomb that is thrown into the car. Although what it has to do with the song I haven't got a clue.

There is a only a few things that link in with the song such as when you see people kissing, which indicates "When your lips touch mine", but there is a lot that doesn't link such as the fireworks... The song is about lightning not fireworks... And those lights around The Wanted, I presume they're supposed to reference lightning but not everyone is going to see the links.

Overall I really like the song and it will become more and more catchy the more times I hear it, but the music video isn't one to make you go WOW. It doesn't reflect the song very well, and definitely could have been a lot better. Maybe I was expecting too much after the "Glad You Came" music video.

This is The Wanted's 5th overall single, but their 2nd single from the as-of-yet untitled 2nd album. The have been a big hit here in the UK, managing to already score a number 1 with their first ever single: "All Time Low", and their other singles have all managed to get inside the top 20. Could they get another number 1 from this single? We'll just have to wait and find out.

This boy band consists of five members who are: Nathan Sykes, Max George, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness and Tom Parker.They all had their 15 minutes of fame before starting this group, but they wasn't in the lime-light for long. Now they are getting bigger and bigger, and people are becoming more and more aware of who these guys are. They will definitely become a well-known band. With boy bands such as JLS and One Direction, these boys have competition on their hands, but I think they'll stand their ground and get their worthy chart numbers.

So this song is called "Glad You Came", it's about having fun and being with the person you like and spending time with a party or out in the sun. They sing about being "glad you came" and "the sun goes down, the stars come out" giving the night-light appeal. However I like the fact that there is a hidden meaning to this song, the people who are old enough will know what I'm on about, and I really can't help but laugh whenever they say "Glad you came". Having two meanings is a really good idea, which will probably help boost this song to number one easily.

The music video has a lot of eye-candy in it, for both men and women. I definitely like the start, it's kind of like an introduction, this really represents the video, and although it was probably used to use up space on the video, it works neatly within the song as the song is slow-paced at the start. The editing from one shot to the next is dead on time to the beats in the background of the song, this gives it a fast paced feel that definitely represents the song.

I like how each band member is with a girl each, this way it shows they wasn't short on people, and it also made it easier to shoot, although some things are a little over-the-top considering children or kids may end up watching this, especially since it may turn out to be number 1 on the Singles Chart.

There is so much going on in the music video, it is difficult to keep up, and even though the fast-pace relies well on the song ad the music, it becomes difficult to follow, and towards the end you give up. But then it all slows down again, for the perfect little outro that suits the song and the music video really well.

Overall it's a catchy kind of song that will be hitting the clubs all over the UK. There are various scenes, from a club, to a house party, to the beach to the water. There are pillow fights and beach volley ball. But everything goes by so quickly that you only see some bits after watching it 3 or more times over. Which is probably intended to help raise the YouTube hits. Anyway this will almost definitely reach number 1 and I'll be surprised if it doesn't.
