I had no idea what music video to review today, so I thought I might as well continue to review Britney Spears' music videos - one day I'll have them all on my blog, that's for sure. This is such a sweet song and music video, which followed up her massive international number one hit "...Baby One More Time"; and, although it didn't really hit the same peak positions on charts around the world, it still did amazingly with some chart numbers she hasn't really managed to hit in recent years. Watch Britney Spears be the girl next door as she watches a guy she really likes play with his dog on a beach intercut with her dancing with a troupe of backing dancers in this music video for "Sometimes".
Britney Spears is totally one of the biggest female singers in the world, she's had a lengthy career in music that's span over two decades, and she continues to bring hits and addicting songs. She recently had amazing success in Las Vegas where she had a residency that spanned four years. In 2018, she's taking that residency global with her Piece Of Me world tour. She's truly an iconic star, one everyone knows, and she's so genuine too. This song was certainly another hit for her and lead to many amazing hits that followed. It was written by Jörgen Elofsson.
Directed by Nigel Dick - who directed "...Baby One More Time" - the music video has both a narrative side and a performance side. It was shot at the Paradise Cove in Malibu, California. Her love interest is played by model and actor Chad Cole.
The music video opens with Britney Spears looking through a telescope - according to MTV the initial concept was her looking at a group of kids which leads to her having flashbacks of spending time with a former boyfriend; however, this was changed - she watches her love interest, Chad Cole, playing with his dog on the beach.
There's a lot of shots of Britney Spears watching Chad Cole, some may think it's stalkerish, but we've all been there looking and staring and watching someone we've fallen for... Years later, Carly Rae Jepsen does the exact same thing in the "Call Me Maybe" music video.
Throughout, there are scenes of Britney Spears performing killer dance choreography - this is what we constantly expect from Britney Spears and gosh does she nail it in every way! The choreography seems on the fast side, but it certainly goes with the track as a whole, and there are some iconic dance moves that we now identify with this incredible female singer in the chorus sequence.
Overall, Britney Spears gave us another brilliant music video back in the day. What a follow-up to "...Baby One More Time", and we can't help but love this side of her at the start of her career. It brings a bit of nostalgia too watching these older music videos, but I still love Britney Spears, especially her confidence to be sexy in her latest visuals.
I really am looking to YouTube to come up with music videos I can review quickly so I can finally catch up, since I am 25 blogs behind, at the moment - I am determined to catch up, and I will. I was planning on doing Spice Girls' "Spice Up Your Life", but that's already done, then I came across Lady Gaga's "Judas", but I think that music video is going to take up too much of my time, for now - I will review it at a much later date - so then I stumbled across this one, and I'm surprised I haven't reviewed it yet; although to be fair, it's one of Britney Spears' weakest music videos. Britney Spears needs no introduction, she's one of the top female singers in the entire world who still manages to get chart hits when she needs to. She has recently finished her Vegas residency, which has certainly led the way for many singers to take on Vegas residences after her first set of shows were completely sold out. Reverse back in time, though, and Britney Spears was hitting all the headlines as she went through some personal struggles, and this song and it's subsequent album was released around that time. This was certainly a new side of Britney Spears and the music video really shows that her head wasn't into it - same goes with the other video released from the Blackout album "Piece Of Me" ("Break The Ice" doesn't count since it is an animation visual). The song still climbed high on the charts, regardless of the negative critical reception the video and song got. It managed to peak at number one in Canada; number two in Brazil, Denmark, Ireland, Italy, and Sweden; and number three in Australia, Norway, the UK, and the US. The song was written by Nate Hills, James Washington, Keri Hilson, and Marcella Araica.
Directed by Jake Sarfaty, the music video is beyond basic and certainly isn't on par with what we expect from Britney Spears. Although, this song is certainly the beginning of "It's Britney, Bitch".
There's a slight narrative going on as we see blonde-haired Britney Spears enjoying a drink at a bar, whilst black-haired Britney Spears starts pole-dancing. Britney enjoys watching Britney's show before taking an interest in a guy who is also drinking within the venue.
The dancing isn't anything amazing, and to be fair I do pole dance much better than Britney Spears in this video when I go clubbing - as there is one venue with a pole on the dancefloor. She's quite methodical, clearly thinking about the steps she's taking and what she should do.
The music video was edited and re-edited, with a leak of the previous version being released in 2011. This version omitted the blonde-haired Britney scenes and included the female singer walking down the street and being in a zebra-print bed with a cat. It's clear that no matter what version was released and no matter how this was edited, it clearly couldn't have been saved. However, I much prefer this version, as it gives off a slight narrative that is relatable to the song itself; so, I guess it was a good decision to re-edit the video.
After getting up early today to watch this music video, and then write my article for CelebMix about it, I knew I had to review it on my blog too. To me, this music video is one of the best ones from Britney Spears, mainly because of how happy she is, she's giving amazing positive vibes in this video, and it's nice to see her like this. Britney Spears and Tinashe team up for this exciting new music video for "Slumber Party". They dance, party and have fun in a spooky mansion.
Britney Spears returned with a whole new album this year titled "Glory". Personally, it's one of Britney's best albums she has released; literally, I like every single song, which is extremely rare, for me. Now, after the dire "Make Me..." video that was a rushed release after the highly anticipated one got scrapped; she has now totally redeemed herself by releasing one of her best videos yet. Teaming up with Tinashe slightly didn't add much to the song, but the video itself is, even more, fire with them both. Tinashe, full name Tinashe Kachingwe, is one of those singers that dip in and out of the charts and although she hasn't had a global hit, her songs are still known amongst the general public. Sales aren't everything, and nor are charts; Tinashe is definitely proof of that. This was her dream, to collaborate with Britney Spears, and to get to the point in your career where you complete your dream is something to be massively proud of. This song was written by Mattias Larsson, Robin Fredriksson, Julia Michaels, and Justin Tranter.
Directed by grammy-nominated Colin Tilley, it's no surprise how amazing this video is. There's so much to this music video, that I don't even know where to start. Britney Spears' love interest in the music video is actor and model Sam Ashgari.
The opening scene is a car driving through some gates, that had opened mysteriously by themselves. Britney Spears steps out of the back and starts walking up to the mansion; she takes off her red fur coat and leaves it lying on the floor, showing off her sexy red dress.
The party is in full swing much like "If U Seek Amy"'s music video is. Only this time they have bubbles creating a haze like visual. Then she catches the eye of Sam Ashgari, and we don't blame her for checking him out.
Plenty of other scenes follow; a party scene, a luxury sitting room scene, and a killer dance scene that has Britney Spears smashing out the dance sequences like they're nothing. A true professional right there, in total sync with her backing dancers.
Tinashe soon arrives, she magically appears in the sitting room and they both start to caress each other, are they suggesting a threesome to Sam Ashgari? Wouldn't be the first time Britney Spears suggested a threesome, just listen to those lyrics in "3".
Tinashe also gets up onto the dancefloor for a one-on-one with Britney Spears. This was not a surprise, they are flawless throughout, and yet manage to make it look like they came up with the choreography there and then. The dances are easily performed and perfectly relatable to the lyrics almost a direct translation, enough where we know we'll totally be performing them when we're clubbing.
Britney Spears brings milk into the visual once again in an iconic scene. Milk previously appeared in "I Wanna Go", but this time around, it's Britney Spears who is lapping up the milk herself. It has been spilt on the table, probably when she climbed onto the table and sexily crawled her way to Sam Ashgari.
The ending sees the doors close by themselves. Quite the haunting video, it makes me wonder if they had planned for a Halloween release, but pushed it back and made it less haunting. Although why Sam Ashgari has that tattoo on his face is anyone's guess.
Overall, this is definitely one of her best videos. Relatable, fun, a killer dance scene, a brilliant collaboration, a great opening scene, a dining room table crawl scene. What more could we have asked for? Britney Spears' performance is on point throughout, and Tinashe is brilliant as a featured guest star. A little note to the dancer that has Britney Spears' head lying on his body whilst she touches his crotch, I bet not many guys can say that Britney has done that to them. This is the happiest I've seen Britney Spears in a music video for a while! Pure fire!
I actually can't believe I haven't reviewed this music video yet. So lets make amends on my blog. I chose the director's cut, since it isn't much different from the original release, just less steam and more nakedness, but nothing too profound. For my Thursday Revisit, after watching "Make Me...", this is how you do a first single music video of a new album. "Make Me..." isn't a typical Britney Spears music video, THIS IS! This put Britney Spears back where she belonged, it was her name on everyone's lips, "Make Me..." just hasn't done that. Britney shows her man who's boss and proves that he is a womanizer. You don't mess with Britney Spears and get away with it!
Britney Spears is one of the biggest stars around and she is still releasing music, although you may not know it since she hasn't been hitting the charts hard recently. Believe it or not, she has never had a UK number one album, and unless she pulls something out of the bag, her latest album 'Glory', which is set to release at the end of the month, is just not going to get to the top. Especially after the fiasco of "Make Me...". This song, however, should've got to number one. Instead it settled at number three behind Leona Lewis' "Run" and Take That's "Greatest Day". It was the first single to be taken from her 'Circus' album, which got to number four. Could she turn things around? It looks doubtful, although her instant grat singles aren't doing so badly. Womanizer was written by Nikeshia Briscoe and Rafael Akinyemi.
Directed by Joseph Kahn, he strikes again, this music video is fire! We expect nothing less of him nowadays. Britney Spears' love interest is male actor Brandon Stoughton.
This is a Britney video! Narration with a performance piece set throughout. She shows how brave she is in the sauna, proving to the world that she hasn't put weight on and that she is totally healthy once again. This single will always be my mark to Britney being back and healthy again.
Throughout the video, we see Britney in disguise, much like "Toxic", with a few references to the previous video, this almost works as a follow-up, not quite though.
She's seen as a receptionist, a waitress and a chauffeur. Proving to herself and her boyfriend that he is a womanizer and that he gets up to all things when Britney Spears is not around. So at the end she gets her revenge and magically makes him disappear.
The dancing is stiff and not so flawless as we're used to from Britney Spears, regardless there's dancing, which is more than what can be said about new music video for "Make Me...".
Extremely stylish and fashion-based for 2008, it proves that Britney Spears is on form and knows what she wants. And it certainly isn't womanizer: Brandon Stoughton.
Brandon Stoughton is gorgeously sexy, he is one fine on-screen boyfriend, visual-wise, and definitely the perfect fit for a womanizer, he just has that look about him. Brilliant acting from him, he makes it seem so real, whilst Britney Spears is perfect as always.
This music video is amazing, everything is thought of, every detail, every outfit, every style, and every scene. Britney Spears' dancing might be slightly off in the video, but we know she's back on form right now at her Las Vegas residency. If only I could fly out and go and see her.
There is a lot of controversy around this music video. Mainly because the original music video got completely scrapped, you know the one filmed by David LaChapelle, and has been teased for months? Well now we have a video quite different than what was teased, and one that many aren't exactly happy with, but only because we know we're missing out on the original. If we had never known about it, then this would be a perfectly normal Britney Spears music video, that no one had a problem with. Britney Spears and her girls audition male actors, where she chooses one guy to take back to her bedroom, he will definitely Make Me Ooh!
Britney Spears is about to make a career comeback, or so we all thought. But she's lost so many potential pre-orders because of the public controversy over this music video. This song isn't the next "Work Bitch", it's not the next "Womanizer" and it's quite a simple and relaxed single that none of us really expected and doesn't defy the music industry the way we had been promised. Clearly too much hype surrounded this release, and 'Glory', her ninth studio album, might just be one of the worst releases in quite some time. Britney Spears has got to pull it all back, release something to make us go ooh! Something that puts her back on the top once again, Yet it looks completely unlikely that will happen. This song features G-Eazy, real name Gerald Gillum, who is getting around a lot, he is definitely the rapper to watch who is featuring in a lot of songs and is batting out chart hits. This is the first song, he's been in, that I really like his contribution because it goes with the beat of the track. This song was written by Britney Spears, Matthew Burns, Joe Janiak and Gerald Gillum.
Directed by Randee St. Nicholas, this video was planned to be totally different, with a different director. The David LaChapelle version will go unreleased for the foreseeable future, but some clips from the original has been kept.
Britney Spears and her girls starts off this music video, asking a 'Michael' to come along on Saturday and to bring some friends, only Michael never appears again in the video. The cackle of the girls is quite scary and unnatural and Britney Spears looks completely lost and not into it whatsoever.
We zoom forward to Saturday, and we watch them interview guys, most of which take off their shirts to let us marvel at their rippling gorgeous bodies, the winner gets to spend time with Britney Spears in bed.
Relatable and definitely sexy, this video is totally engaging as you try to work out who will win. However Britney Spears doesn't look that into it, a solo dance sequence which includes repeated steps and quite a lack-lustre performance, Britney Spears is totally missing her back-up dancers.
G-Eazy's scene is completely edited from the original video, which would've shown him having sex whilst singing his lyrics, hence the unbuttoning of his shirt. Although his verse is fire, his scene is totally out of place and unnecessary.
Overall, this video fails continuity, it fails to show variety, and we're back with Britney Spears looking a little on the lost side. This music video is easily forgettable amongst her famous releases, and she has got to do something soon to make us all want to buy her new album. She has yet to get a UK number one album, and 'Glory' doesn't look set to make it to the top of the UK charts.
Back to a bit of Britney Spears, purely because this song is constantly stuck in my head recently as someone won't stop looking at me and checking me out. Although I no longer fancy him or even have a crush on him, since I've totally gone off him, I still feel that he needs to do something about it. I'd rather he go off me, or tell me he likes me so I can let him down gently. Today he didn't stop staring at me and it was getting right on my nerves. Why don't you do something? Britney commands the attention whilst introducing to us her alter ego Mona Lisa. Britney and her entourage dances, performs and ride in the clouds to this pop/rock hit.
Britney Spears is gearing up for a new album release this year, she wants it to be perfect, and it's already highly anticipated, 2016 might be her year, she definitely needs some amazing chart hits. The biggest question is whether she'll actually get a UK number one album, it's surprising that she has not managed to top the UK album charts yet. However, promotion is key in the UK, but it's unlikely a world tour is coming up soon, what with her staying in Vegas until 2017. How can you promote an album whilst performing dates in Vegas? My suggestion is to film a Las Vegas show, and get it shown on TV, I remember watching a live concert on TV when I was young, although I'm not sure which one it was, she's done a few, but this will really promote her new album in the UK. This song was released as the second single from her Greatest Hits: My Prerogative. It was written by Christian Karlsson, Pontus Winnberg, Henrik Jonback and Angela Hunte. Britney had to fight with her record label to make a music video for this song and release it as a single, luckily it paid off.
This music video had Britney Spears' record label caught up in a law suit as a Louis Vuitton dashboard was used in this video without authorisation. The co-directors of this video are Britney Spears and Billie Woodruff. The edited video, shown above, was released at a later time, without the Louis Vuitton dashboard.
Simple with not much going on, the video is empowerment, Britney Spears is centre of attention, and I feel that she always has an entourage around her at all times, it makes her a central figure, she also had an entourage when she appeared in Jane The Virgin.
There's some good literal translations from the song such as driving the truck in the clouds, as well as passing her a guitar so she looks like a star. I can identify with the lyrics as I always feel like someone's watching me when I'm on the dancefloor in a club.
There's not a lot going on in this music video, a pure performance piece where Britney Spears is centre stage, just the way she likes it. She brings out her rock side at the end, which isn't anything new after "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction". I hope her new album isn't like this song, and gives us something fresh, something that will finally give her a UK number one album, she definitely deserve to be at the top.

Jana Kramer looks beautiful and stunning in this video about a boy she used to date who recently got married, she sings the song whilst going through a memory box.
Jana Kramer first came to my attention by being on the Footloose (2011 Film) Soundrack. She sang a cover version of Deniece Williams' "Let's Hear It For The Boy". however, others will probably know her for her acting roles. I don't remember her being in 90210, but she was there for six episodes. Others will definitely know her as Alex Dupre / Alex Whitehead in One Tree Hill. She is currently focusing on her music career, which is definitely the right direction for her, if the charting positions she is getting in the US is anything to go by. But will she make it over here? Country songs rarely appear on the UK singles chart, however country albums do get a look in every now and again. With an incredible voice like Jana Kramer has, I'm sure she'll make it. The song was written by Connie Harrington, Tim Nichols and Jamie Lynn Spears. Although not written by Jana Kramer, herself, she connects deeply with the song as she has been trying to write a song about her high school sweetheart but never quite getting the lyrics right, then this song appears and it's exactly what she's been trying to write. Perfect and beautiful, this track is a brilliant country song that is vocally amazing in every way.
This music video was directed by Kristin Barlowe, and has an alternate ending, which can be found below. The alternate ending extends the narrative, however it adds nothing to the video, and I probably would've dropped a star for the alternate ending video, as it can seem confusing to many. Whereas this one people totally understand and connect with.
Jana Kramer shows off her acting skills, getting into the role missing a past relationship. The lyrics are sang with so much passion that you would expect the music video not to follow through, and yet the video resembles exactly how the singer is feeling in the song. It's just beautiful.
I love the memory box idea, although what would've made this video that extra special would've been flashbacks to the memories she is picking up. However, this performance based video is so full of emotion already. Some of the memories, in question, manages to link to the song at times.
Overall Jana Kramer is beautiful and manages to effortlessly put so much emotion into this song and it's music video. The styling is on point, and so is the outfits. If you don't want to see her live after this performance based video, then there is something wrong with you, as she is putting everything she has into this video, how a tear didn't escape, I do not know, but that would've definitely cheapen the video. I like how she locks the box at the end; the box will always there, in the back of her mind, but locked away. In the alternate ending she takes the box outside and leaves it by a grave, I believe. I prefer the original ending rather than the alternate ending. What do you guys think?
Britney time! I've had this song stuck in my head for the past week, maybe even longer, because there's this guy I really like, but there's nothing I can do about it... So naturally music is there to describe exactly how I'm feeling. Now I used to just think this was a normal Britney Spears single, until the Twister Rave Remix came out, now it's my TUNE! And it totally describes me, I am a ringleader when I'm on the dancefloor with my friends. "Born To Make You Happy" is also about me, according to my friends. Britney Spears outshines herself in this video, relating totally to the song allowing connotations with circuses into the song and video, which is just perfect.
Britney Spears is currently in Las Vegas doing her show Britney: Piece of Me. She has confirmed she is working on her ninth studio album, which has definitely excited me. Her most recent single was a collaboration with Iggy Azalea which wasn't exactly a hit, but did get people talking. Her show has been selling well so far, including sold out shows in the first few months. I'm hopeful her ninth studio album will allow for a world tour, as I've been wanting to see Britney Spears live since I was little, even if she's always criticized for not singing live, it'll be a show I'll never forget, just like this music video.
This video was directed by Francis Lawrence, while the song was written by Lukasz Gottwald (Dr. Luke), Claude Kelly and Benjamin Levin. Some popular names there, unfortunately it only hit number 13 here in the UK. She is looking stunning in this circus-themed video, which includes a lion or two and an elephant!
A perfect dance sequence is also used, her choreography, as always, is on point. Her dance ability is out of this world and this definitely proves that.
The start includes product placement from Bugari, as well as her own fragrances. This so reminds me of when Avril Lavigne does the exact same thing in her "What The Hell" music video, which I've just realised. The jewellery by Bugari is beautiful and looks stunning on Britney.
I love the circus acts, with Britney Spears being the ringleader, because that's what the song states and that is what she is when she dances, along with me. Unfortunately she doesn't have a bat at being a fire breather, although they are included in the video along with a mime on stilts, clowns, contortionists and ribbon dancers.
Overall, this is a perfect video, that I can't fault in any way.Even though Britney Spears was currently not well during these years, you can't tell much, if at all. Dancing is in sync, her performance and acting skills is more than good, she looks like the Britney we all know and love, especially at the end when she catches the hat and is laughing. I would never have thought she wasn't well. But I totally believe we now have the old Britney back, and hopefully with her ninth studio album, she'll finally hit number one on the UK album chart, it's outstanding how she has never got to the top spot yet.
As we all patiently await Giorgio Moroder's music video to his updated version of this song, that features vocals from Britney Spears, I thought I might take a look back at the old music video. Giorgio Moroder's version has been stuck in my head for the past few days, "Tom's Diner" has been released as a single on iTunes, and a lyric video has been uploaded onto YouTube, but whether there will be an actual music video is something we're going to have to wait for.
Originally sung and released by Suzanne Vega who did an a capella version, it was later remixed by DNA in 1990. Rather than take DNA to court for copyright infringement, since DNA used the track without permission, her record label decided to release it as a collaborative effort. Suzanne Vega's version didn't get a music video as it wasn't released as an official single, she had a hit previously with "Luka". DNA did consist of Neal Slateford and Nick Batt, they remixed quite a few songs, however this song became their biggest hit. Just falling short of the number one spot in the UK. Written by Suzanne Vega, it is about grabbing a coffee in Tom's Diner, it's narrative lyrics are full of visual imagery. The DNA remix also contained writers Steve Addabbo and Lenny Kaye.
The music video is very typical of 90's music videos, it's definitely old school.
Certain images link in with the song, but only a few, the rest are totally random. It looks totally low budget even for a 90's music video.
The choreography is tight, and great to watch, it just proves how dancing changes in all the years. However the two dancers nail the moves consistently and in time with one another.
There's not much else I can comment on. Not something I'd go out of my way to watch again, and it fails to promote the song. I have also included Suzanne Vega's original a capella video version below, along with the amazing version by Giorgio Moroder and Britney Spears. We definitely need a music video from the latter!
Britney Spears and The Smurfs in a music video together... Am I seeing this right, or is it one of my dreams? Nope definitely not a dream, my life is now complete.
Britney Spears, well-known across the world, hasn't had a UK number one since 2004 with "Everytime", unless you count her collaboration with will.i.am on "Scream & Shout". As well as that she has never had a UK number one album, shocking I know, but she will get there one day, we all should keep faith. Her next album is on it's way, and how healthy she looks in this video, and after a year of being a judge on The X Factor US, it's bound to be a great album!
"Ooh La La" was written by Lukasz Gottwald, Joshua Coleman, Lola Blanc, Fransisca Hall, Bonnie McKee, Henry Walter and Jacob Kasher Hindlin. Some well known songwriters right there, so it explains why it is so catchy. It was supposed to be sung by Lola Blanc, but a deal was made to give it to Britney. I have listened to it way too often and I can't stop. It's simple lyrics, it's clubby motives and the beat is all so drawing. This should be a hit, yet it's slowly climbing up the charts, hopefully it will hit the Top 40 this Sunday, but at the moment it looks unlikely.
The song is on The Smurfs 2 soundtrack, and since I'm seeing The Smurfs 2 on Thursday, I definitely expect this song to be played. As expected The Smurfs are in the music video. However I'm a little disappointed that we haven't got any songs from The Smurfs on the soundtrack. The first movie had them singing a few songs, and I expect the Smurf theme to be sung, but no sign of it on the soundtrack. I thought this would be like an Alvin and the Chipmunks soundtrack, guess that may never happen, I was really looking forward to Smurfette's 'I Kissed A Smurf' cover of "I Kissed A Girl" by Katy Perry.
The music video is mainly performance piece, with interspersed clips of The Smurfs 2. I like everything it's so good and so cute, what with Britney Spears' children and niece being in the music video, they are called Sean Preston Federline, Jayden James Federline and Maddie Aldridge respectively. They go to the cinema to see The Smurfs 2, and Gargamel zaps Britney into the film.
The opening scene with the Cinema is a homage to Janet Jackson's music video for "Nasty". Here Britney goes again with her homages!
The scenes with the boys and Maddie in the background are great to watch, and they perform so well, it makes it believable, and they did a great job.
Britney looks healthy in the entire video, she's dancing and having Smufette (voiced by Katy Perry) on her hand. She's having a great time, and it's good to see her well again. It may be due to having her boys with her, but since the song is for them anyway you can't help but smile. The world has Britney back once and for all.
The Smurfs perform a dance to her song, I keep watching it, and I'm hoping to learn the dance moves. I'm also expecting a lot of DJ's remixing this song for clubs, it has that hook in the middle that will suit clubbing perfectly.
Overall, a great song which should be a global success, yet it hasn't managed to do that well, could the reason be digital downloads? Since when CD Singles were released children could go and buy the single and help it chart, but now it's all digital downloads, the song attracts many younger audiences who probably can't buy the single without bugging their parents to death. The accompanying music video is amazingly cute. I don't know how Britney gets out of the Smurf world (she may be stuck there forever!) This has excited me for her new album, and I can't wait to see what the future brings to Britney.
Miley Cyrus, real name Destiny Cyrus, is called Avis Cyrus in this music video for no reason I can think of. Maybe it's another alter ego? Or is she playing a part? Is this not who she is, or a whole different side to her that wanted to come out and play? This is the song and music video that hit major controversy for Miley Cyrus, leaving her 6-12 year old fan base to try and get credibility between her own age which is young adults. Now she is 20 years old (same age as me) and has short hair, and is working on a fourth album. Could this be her most daring album yet? She has left her old good-girl image behind her, much like Britney Spears did with "I'm A Slave For You" and Christina Aguilera did with "Dirrty". So this new album could take any form she wants.
"Can't Be Tamed" was written by Miley Cyrus, Antonina Armato, Tim James, Paul Neumann and Marek Pompetzki. The song can be taken and be seen in various different lights, I always saw it in a relationship side and how she doesn't want anyone to turn her into someone she isn't. However it can also be seen as a school situation and trying to be oneself instead of being involved in a clique. The song hit the UK chart at number 13 making it her fourth highest charting position behind the joint firsts of: "See You Again", "The Climb" and "Party In The U.S.A.". Will Miley Cyrus ever get a UK Top 10 hit? Or will she constantly be getting number 11?
The music video is held in a museum and it starts off with the cage keeper announcing: 'a creature so rare it was believed to be extinct. In captivity for the first time, the rarest creature on Earth, Avis Cyrus'. Miley Cyrus is in the cage and when someone takes a photo she protects herself with those awesome wings.
The music video continues with her and her backing dancers taking over the museum and causing a bit of a havoc.
There is a lot of choreography, which is performed well and shows that she can dance (although we already know that from various previous music videos). The setting is extremely interesting, teaching younger audiences that it is cool to go to a museum and learn about extinction.
The ending proves that everything will end up in rubble. Again, I believe this also manages to hit out at the paparazzi, with the camera at the start, and the song could also be linked to them, she doesn't want to be a good-girl, she wants to be who she is, and would rather the paparazzi leave her alone.
A lot of people have referenced this to Britney Spears, the paparazzi angles can be found in "Hold It Against Me", "If U Seek Amy", "Everytime", "I Wanna Go" and "Piece Of Me". Miley has even done her own music video that hits at the paparazzi which was "Fly On The Wall". Is there never going to be an end to music videos hitting out at the media? On the other hand, some of them are the best videos I have ever seen.
Overall a song that has been stuck in my head, and should've also hit the Top 10 of the UK chart, and a music video that is perfect in every way. I do think they should've used the wings more as they were only in a few scenes for a few seconds. The video portrays the song exactly the way we want it to and also manages to show off her dance ability.
Britney Spears seems to be a constant on my blog, so the fact that she hasn't appeared since October ("Scream & Shout" doesn't count), just shows how focused I have been. But this song has been haunting me for the last month. It keeps coming up on my iTunes Up Next; then I heard it in Tesco's; next it was played on Signal 1, the radio station my alarm goes off to in the morning; not only that but my friend always plays the song when she comes over, which is quite often. People describe this song as Jonni's song, as people believe that it's about me, only I was born to make everyone happy, not just one person. I guess it's true, it's definitely a me song.
"Born To Make You Happy" was written by Andreas Carlsson and Kristian Lundin. This song is so powerful, and I can see why people think it's about me, sadly it isn't, although it could well have been. The song is about a woman who wants to fix her relationship. The video is not quite the portrayal it could have been.
Now this YouTube video is out of sync, the lyrics of the song doesn't match with Britney's lips. They're a few seconds out, which really annoyed me. I am not entirely sure if that is in the original video shown on the music channels or if it is this version on YouTube. Since I don't know, it does not affect my rating (however if I were certain it was like that in the original, it would create a low rating, since this is the worse matching up I have seen).
I have never seen this video, believe it or not. I was quite surprised that I hadn't so this is something new.
There's narrative and performance, once again. I love the use of it all being a dream. I struggled finding the name of Britney's love interest, but after much researching, I found him, his name is Christopher Snyder. There's not much to the bedroom scene apart from slow walking, pillow fights and sleeping, but she clearly makes him happy (or is it the other way round? Who knows?)
The performance side is filled with choreography. I especially like the blue and silver room that has different level tables, it's quite futuristic and engaging, I think there should've been more scenes cut from that part. The choreography shown through-out seems too quick for the song and it's not easy to follow, which shows how good of a dancer Britney is, but also makes me think she's dancing to a remixed version which is sped up.
Overall this song means a lot to me, and I agree with my friends, it is a Jonni Song, and if people were to write a song about me, it would be similar to this as I am always trying to make everyone happy. The music video is missing a lot, the choreography is too quick and the scenes flit by, you have to try and make sure you catch it all, as if you blink you might just miss something.
Will.I.Am, real name William Adams, is one quarter of American band The Black Eyed Peas. He is a coach on The Voice UK and is well-known for his name-dropping on the show. He knows exactly what he is talking about and is one of these people who will be a part of the music industry for the rest of his life. I am looking forward to his future singles, but can he top this collaboration? I very much doubt it. This song features the high-profiled Miss Britney Spears, who has appeared on this blog a number of times. I admit, I am a fan, one of the Britney Army. She has had a successful career, but has recently been failing to chart. Her last number one was back in 2004 with "Everytime", could this song be the one to push her back in the limelight? Definitely.
"Scream & Shout" was written by William Adams, Jef Martens and Jean Baptiste. The song is extremely catchy and I cannot stop listening to it, and I look like I'm not the only one. The song uses the iconic "It's Britney Bitch", first used in the song for "Gimme More". The single release date in the UK was pushed forward a few weeks after the demand in the UK was extremely high. The song has been climbing up the UK iTunes chart, this is definitely going to be a hit, but with stiff competition from The X Factor winner James Arthur with his single "Impossible", it is going to be a major chart battle.
The music video is definitely different to what we expect, but it links in great with the song and it's meaning. It has been described as a series of photographs, and that is exactly what it feels like. Like someone is trying to show you something through a series of actions.
As everyone has already announced, Britney Spears stands out amazingly. And although she is merely only featuring on the track, you can't help but feel eager to watch her again and again. I think she has this essence, this performance essence that lights up when in a music video. Will.I.Am tries his best to stand out too, and although he managed to do so, it's just not as engaging as Britney.
There's so much going on, and even though I have already seen it about 10 times, there's still parts of the video I haven't seen before, and this is what makes a video like this, great. You have to make them want to watch it again and again so that they don't miss anything.
Overall a great song that deserves to get to number one this Sunday. The music video is the best music video I have ever seen in this style. Any competition in this style has been blown away and I cannot even think of any similar. I like it's subtle links with the song and the editing is WOW. I have nothing else to say, except UK fans download now, this NEEDS to be number one!
Britney, Britney, Britney. What else can I add to this blog post, that I haven't added in previous posts? I just feel like I'm going to keep on repeating myself. So let's start with what's new... She is a judge/mentor on The X Factor US, which I have been watching, and I'm definitely rooting for Britney's Teens, however the UK is one episode behind the US, so please don't spoil what happens for me. She has been through a lot in her life, and I really like how this video shows the stages of her life.
"Hold It Against Me" was written by Max Martin, Lukasz Gottwald (Dr. Luke), Bonnie McKee and Mattieu Jomphe (Billboard). The song was almost given to Katy Perry, but they decided it wasn't a "Katy Perry song". It's extremely catchy and very different to what we expect from these amazing song-writers. The single was pushed forward as demand was high for it, even in the UK. However it peaked at number six on the UK chart. It deserved higher. Will Britney ever get a new number one? She hasn't got there since "Everytime" was released back in 2004 (almost 10 years ago now). It shows she's not quite fully back just yet, but I bet we'll see her top the charts once again in the next few years.
This music video doesn't link in with the song,. however it does show Britney is back. It shows her life and how she has battled through it, and she isn't going to give up.
I like the progression that this video gives. We see her as a strong, on-her-game sort of person that represents the late 1990's, where she was on top. Then things start to go wrong, showing her meltdown. I like the use of Britney fighting herself, representing her fighting her inner demons, trying to hang in there. She collapses, every Britney falls to the floor. Showing her breakdown. But she gets back up again showing she is back and ready to get back on top again. The question mark at the end means the future is what you make it, and that there is a future for Britney.
I like how we see all her past music videos as well. And it's extremely brave to show her breakdown. It proves that she realises it's a part of her past, and although she isn't proud of it, she has to accept it to move forward, and that is exactly what she is doing. Again we see a couple of references, one of Madonna's music video "Bedtime Story", a reference to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and there is also a reference to the paparazzi who just won't leave her alone.
Overall a very catchy song that should've charted higher. The music video doesn't link in that well with the song, however there is product placement, from Sony TVs, "Make Up For Ever" and "PlentyofFish", the latter adding into the meaning of the song, so it is there. Now what should my rating be? Since this video is superb and the only thing I can find wrong with it is not linking with the song all that well, I have no choice but to give it the rating it clearly deserves.
Justice has become my Sunday Revisit, I previously reviewed "We Are Your Friends" and I really, really wanted to review this music video, so I'm glad I'm getting the chance. Justice are a French band consisting of Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay. They have had a few hits, and managed to hit the UK a couple of times. But only fairly recently people have started listening to them, and with new songs coming out soon, I cannot wait to see if they chart well, I presume they will.
"D.A.N.C.E." was written by Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay, it samples Britney Spears featuring Madonna's "Me Against The Music". It also recites a lot of Michael Jackson songs such as "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)", "Black And White", "Workin' Day And Night", "Whatever Happens" and the Jackson 5's song "ABC". It charted at number 48 on the UK chart, which is quite low considering.
This music video is incredibly different to what is about at the moment. I don't think I've seen anything like it, however some parts do remind me of videos I have seen before, but none of them come to mind. I also didn't expect it either.
There is a lot of t-shirts, and clearly a lot of editing went into this music video, it's hard to believe that we actually don't see any heads at all, unless they sneak one in by accident. Some of the t-shirts are amazing, and it is really clever how they have done this video, I can't even describe it all that much.
There is a lot of words used in this video, which I always like as then I don't have to search the Internet for lyrics, but I can understand how others hate them as they are on the annoying side, and it's difficult to make them look appealing, however I believe Justice have tried their best with them, making comical animations that fit in with the words, which is quite risky, but actually works.
Overall a great song, a shocking video, and the most amazing t-shirts I have ever seen, my favourite has to be the zips when they zip up the t-shirt, that just makes me laugh and confused at the same time. I'm dropping a star off purely because it has very little link with the video, but that really is the only reason.
PSY has quickly became extremely well known and it's all to do with this video. His real name is Park Jae-Sang and he is from South Korea. It is the first time he has appeared on this blog and I so hope this isn't the last as he has made me laugh lots with this music video. It is also the first K-Pop song to appear on this blog too. "Gangnam Style" was written by Yoo Gun-Hyung and PSY, it's so catchy you can't help but sing a long, but the video always cracks a smile on people's faces. He also taught Britney Spears and Ellen DeGeneres how to do the Gangnam Style (check out the video below). This song has charted all over the world, and even managed to get to number one in South Korea, Finland and Denmark, it just missed out on getting to that top spot in Belgium. It is also climbing high in the UK Chart, it is currently number one on the iTunes Chart, but he has stiff competition, but can he score his first ever UK number one?
This music video is a fist full of laughs, it's performance based with elements of a narrative hidden between. There are some quite awkward moments, but it suits K-Pop. It's a whole different genre to certain countries, and PSY has managed to show the world what it's all about I would definitely call him the leader of this type of music, however will he be a one-hit wonder? I so hope not.
There are some really surprising scenes such as the elevator, however I usually try to ignore that bit, but I really do like the big choreographed section where they are all dancing together, and then that dance battle is amazing too, I can't help but chant "go PSY, go PSY".
The music video has quite a few special effects too, there is an explosion at one point, and there's so much going on that I definitely can't comment on it all. For those of you who are wondering what the sauna bit is, I'm not sure either, but PSY is straight, he has a wife and 2 twin daughters.
Celebrities are commonly found in K-Pop music videos, and there is quite a few of them, never mind how minor a celebrity they are. There is 4minute member Hyuna, BIGBANG members Daesung and Seungri, Hwang Min-woo (from Korea's Got Talent), Yoo Jae-suk and No Hongchul.
The video was only released for fans, however the fans were the ones who managed to share this song and video with the world, creating a "snowball effect".
Overall, this song is amazing and should get the number one spot this Sunday on the UK Chart, as for the accompanying music video, it's groovy, different and has got the whole world giggling, not only that but it has also introduced a lot of people who had never heard of K-Pop top a whole different genre. There are surprising scenes, but what PSY has managed to achieve in such a small space of time has definitely made up for it, clearly there is no other rating for this music video!
After hearing that Alanis Morissette will be releasing a new song in a couple of months called "Guardian" I got all excited. I have also been playing SongPop recently and in the Ultimate 90's collection this song pops up every now and then and it's stuck n my head today. I first stumbled across this perfect singer thanks to Miss Moirae, we used to see each other everyday, and she brought over "Jagged Little Pill" and we listened to that album again and again, and the songs never got boring. Whenever I hear this song and "You Ought To Know" I can't help but think of those days and how much I miss them, having no responsibility and just enjoying my time with friends with great music.
Alanis Morissette is Canadian (as a lot of great singers are...), she has been going since 1987, and she has had a number of hits, let's hope her new single "Guardian" gets a good charting position. "Ironic" was written by Alanis Morissette and Glen Ballard, the latter having produced, co-written and sung many, many songs; but this is the first time he has been mentioned on my blog, surely it will not be the last. As I always say, I love it when the artist writes their own songs, you feel like you've walked into their life and they're telling you a secret. This is what makes this song so perfect, she means every single word, and you can't help but enjoy it, and sing-a-long.
This music video wasn't what I expected at all. I kind of was expecting similar ironic things that is in the lyrics, instead we get an Alanis Morissette band which has 4 Alanis Morissettes singing together. It's editing perfection especially for the time era. I find it extremely different to what is about, and kind of reminds me of Britney Spears' "Lucky".
The different Alanis Morissettes are all wearing different clothes and all have different personalities. First off you have the original Alanis Morissette driving, she is focused on driving and so hasn't got time to relax. The next girl is very expressive a little ditzy but she wants to let rip all these emotions. The next Alanis Morissette has dreadlocks and is quite humble but she's also a muncher and manages to sing and eat at the same time. The last Alanis Morissette is in the passenger seat, she's a bit crazy and she goes out the window and jumps back in just before the car goes under a bridge, and then she laughs afterwards.
I love this, wouldn't it just be amazing to have friends who are actually you but with different personalities? It's a weird one, because people say that we are all different and if there was a world where you were the exact same as everyone else, it'll be plain boring... But would it? I'm not sure, but there would always be ironic things going on in that world.
This song is amazing and I hear it quite a lot on the radio and I always think of Miss Moirae when I hear this. It's accompanying music video is great and it was nominated for a lot of music video awards. I like the ironic ending; as at the very start she is at a petrol station/gas station, and then at the end, the car slows down and stops suggesting it's ran out of fuel... This is a great music video with a great song too.
Britney Spears once again appears on my blog. She is a worldwide star and has recently been confirmed as an X Factor USA judge. I was kind of hoping she'd be signed for the UK, but guess not. Will she be a good judge? I'm not sure, but guess we'll find out soon enough. This song brought a lot of attention upon herself, with many people not happy with the song lyrics.
The song was written by Max Martin, Shellback, Savan Kotecha and Alexander Kronlund. Once again they have created a great hit. This song wasn't going to be released as a single, Britney decided to ask Facebook followers what should be her next single, and they chose this one. It worked out well as it charted high in some countries, but in others it didn't fair out so well. In the UK it got to number 20, which is quite low for Britney. Although it has been 8 years since she has had a number one hit.
This music video is quite shocking, I love how it's a reference to the song's meaning. For those of you who don't know there are two meanings, one is: "all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if u seek Amy" suggesting they want you to find Amy, and the other one is "all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to F-U-C-K me", this explains the start of the music video perfectly.
The second half makes Britney look like a traditional mom, with a family and a normal life, with the paparazzi unaware of what is going on behind close doors. This is yet another paparazzi Vs. Britney music videos, which are frequently popping up with "Piece of Me" and "I Wanna Go".
There is quite a few references to past music videos in this video, these include the start for "Piece of Me" and at the end where her "daughter" is dressed in the school wear found in "...Baby One More Time".
Overall I love this song, and the music video is quite surprising, but are we getting bored of these paparazzi vs. Britney story lines for music videos? I'm not sure I could cope with another one, but guess we'll eventually find out. Also, a little more trivia... Amy is possibly Britney's alter-ego, hence why their trying to find her. But also when Britney went "off the rails" so did the now late Amy Winehouse, could the Amy in the song reference her instead?
So I have watched quite a few different music videos today, and they are all mixed up and stuck in my head. So I looked at what could potentially be my New Releases in the coming weeks, and saw which ones clashed with which. And so I narrowed it down to two. It was Alexandra Burke's "Let It Go" Vs. Cheryl's "Call My Name". Contestant Vs. Judge. And Alexandra won. But only because I think Cheryl's song will be a big hit and I would rather review it near the release date.
Alexandra Burke won The X Factor UK back in 2008, Cheryl Cole was her mentor/judge. 2008 was a big year for The X Factor UK, and many of the finalists became artists. They are: Alexandra Burke (winner), JLS (second), Eoghan Quinn (third), Diana Vickers (fourth), Ruth Lorenzo (fifth), Rachel Hylton (sixth), Daniel Evans (seventh), Laura White (eighth) and Scott Bruton (tenth). There is a possibility there may be more in the future. The X Factor is obviously one of the best shows to get noticed, and the people coming away from that show is doing amazing things.
This song was written by Belle Humble, Mick Hansen (Cutfather) and Jason Gill. I'm pretty surprised there's no sign of Alexandra Burke's name in the songwriting credits. She helped wrote "Elephant". Anyway, Mick Hansen also known as Cutfather has been songwriting for quite some time and has had many hits, the others are not so well known. The song is definitely one that will be played in the clubs, and it's definitely very catchy.
This music video is good but then it's lacking something. Again it's a big performance piece and I love the start where you hear Alexandra's previous single "Elephant". And it looks like we might get a narrative storyline, but that isn't the case. I like performance pieces, but it's rare for me to give 5*'s to them as they still need to portray something across, and that thing is seriously missing here.
She is an amazing dancer, kind of reminds me of Britney Spears, a bit, as Britney tends to do big choreography. However this video looks cheap, the set is simple, and they aren't even in the real places. Apparently a security guy came up to her and told her she didn't have the rights to film in the London Underground. But wherever that article came from it was later proven false as they filmed in a set.
If you notice any of the dancers, you may find BB dancing, he was in "Dirty Sexy Things", and ended up choosing his dancing career over his modelling career. There may be others you might know from other places, if you spot someone please comment below.
Overall, this is definitely missing something, but what that something is I'm not sure, it was missing in "Elephant" and it's missing in this. Her music videos just aren't as good as previous ones, they are all too similar, and they don't really stand out. I want to go WOW at one of her music videos, but I just can't.
I had a lot of choice this week for my Sunday revisit so I was quite surprised and stuck for choice. I decided on Pink purely because I haven't reviewed many music videos from her on this blog. I have only done "F**kin' Perfect", which is what I did this week. Pink's real name is Alecia Moore, and she has been going for a number of years. She is creating a new album as I currently type this, so I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us.
"Get This Party Started" was written by Linda Perry, who also appears at the bar in this music video. She has been mentioned on this blog once before hand, as she also wrote Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful". This song fits Pink down to a T, and it was the song that made me aware of who she was. And I don't think I was the only one. The song got to number 2 here in the UK, just missing out on the top spot. But it'll always be a top hit to me.
This music video is probably one of the best I've seen during that time of 2001, it kind of reminds me of Britney Spears' "...Baby One More Time", purely because it's so narrative and story based that they both tell a story similar to the lyrics.
There's a few things I like about this music video, but the main thing is the house right at the start, it's very bright and different, and I just love it, I want that house! The skateboarding is pretty clever, and I always laugh when she falls over. I like how they show tribute to the 9/11 attacks which happened just days earlier. I also like how she swaps outfits in the club. If spinning around changed your outfit, everyone would be doing that.
There are a few niggling bits, such as how she ditches her friend to go and dance. The fact that they steel the skateboards in exchange for a kiss, but at the end of the day it's still wrong. I would've preferred her to take them out from the back of the car. And the fact that it isn't the full song either, it's a clipped version.
There are a few famous faces, such as Linda Perry, she is one of the people at the bar, some people say she's the bar woman, whereas others say it's the girl Pink kind of rivals... I'm not too sure. Kevin Federline (who went on to marry and divorce Britney) and Georvohn Lambert who became a dancer for other artists. There are probably a few more, if you spot them tell me below and I'll add them.
Overall a top-notch music video that although has it's faults, are understandable, shame this never became a number one, but it's good no matter what. Pink has recently gone down the route of being happy with who you are. And I hope she keeps with that route for her next album, as it will definitely get people talking, and hopefully get a few chart toppers.
